Plenty of action, great car chase, well directed, interesting story - definitely one of... more the best science fiction movies I have seen in a while.

I wouldnt see it again, and when I was watching this film I was reminded of Pearl Harbour in some scene, like at the end when Lincon and Jorden meet up in the middle of all the clones. Just like... more the battle at pearl harbour. It was good in some places though. Go see it and you find out.

    sixsevenReviewed at 07:50AM on 27 Jul 2005Good Year For Sci-Fi - Its been a year where Sci-Fi has made a welcome return to cinemas (Star Wars ROTS, War of the Worlds, Fantastic Four etc.) the Island is a worthwhile addition. Although not the full on Sci-Fi experience as its set just... more 14 years in the future it contains enough futuristic glimpses and premises to keep most SF fans happy. (Car nuts should enjoy Chrysler/Cadillac's apparent future domination also) Predominantly the Island is an action film - fights, car chases and explosions aplenty. A couple of talky passages in the middle of the film attempting to explain a situation already grasped by most being the only letdown.

The basic premise of the story is social commentary on "man playing god" using human clones. Will not spoil why the clones are... more developed. The story flows nicely at the beginning, building content and context. Ewan McGregor is nicely cast as is Sean Bean. Supporting cast do an okay job and there is not real distraction from the film as a result. The car and chase sequence in the middle of the film is the best action sequence of that kind I have seen since the Highway scene in Matrix Reloaded, which some frantic camera work and great angles. Over all a really enjoyable although a tad long movie. *** 1/2 out of 5

     Cassie7255Reviewed at 11:30AM on 12 Aug 2005Awesome - I thought this movie was fairly brilliant, i saw war of the worlds, i saw batman begins (missed star warsa sadly) but this was so much better than the ones i did see! filled with action, great topic and really thought... more inducing. The actors were well cast i felt, and the subject was treated in a very considerate matter. Easily give it 5/5 and would recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of sci/fi and action.

SubZeroReviewed at 08:19PM on 15 Sep 2006ITS UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU'VE SEEN BEFORE!PHENOMENAL - this is by far one of Michael Bay's greatest works of art. it has such an original story line which is seam-less and a pleasure to follow. it contains, thankfully, all of Michael Bays signature intense close ups and... more mind-blowing visual FX.it focuses on the 'playing-god' streak in power seeking organizations and the extremes that they will enforce to obtain there own ends and blind the consumer in trying to convince them that there 'product' is the best. Michael Bays manifestation of this domination is beautifully captured in a mix of intense action, futuristic and stylized production with great acting and perfect editing. a mesmerizing score produced by Hanz Zimmer and composed by Steve Jablonsky provide the movie with a stunning pace with an up-tempo and 'characteristic chase-sequence' sound. the synchronization of a heartbeat into the score provides even more life to an already explosive thrill ride. one of the best movies of 2005.michael bay is a legend.
