The Diggers Story
SATURDAY THE 29TH OF NOVEMBER - From 5pm `THE DIGGERS` STORY` - BOOK LAUNCH Hokitika Museum`s 150th Anniversary Project. 100 years since the first edition of the diggers story. A new expanded and richly illustrated edition of this classic publication, thoughtfully edited by Julia Bradshaw, director of Hokitika Museum. The evening events include: * Big screen slideshow of the colour illustrations in the story, many previously unpublished. * The MC for the evening will be Don Neale in the guise of a gold digger. * Mike Havill - Mayor of Westland District * Paul Madgwick West Coast historian and Poutini Ngai Tahu, a descendant from pioneer gold diggers. * John Rainey, a descendant of Henry Griffiths whose reminiscences appear in the book. * Renowned NZ balladeer Phil Garland performing goldfields` songs * Sonya Barker, chairwomen of Goldrush 150, and descendant of pioneers. * Catherine Montgomery, Canterbury University Press, the Publisher. Catherine will also draw the winning ticket for the great prize package donated by Canterbury University Press. * Julia Bradshaw, Director fo Hokitika Museum and editor of this new edition, with illustrated talk about The Diggers` Story * Q & A session * After the event time for book signing and socialising. The doors open at 5pm for drinks and book purchases. Entry fee $10 includes your first beer, wine or juice & nibbles.
