The Anglers Paradise
Lake Taupo and it's main spawning tributary, the Tongariro River, are located in the centre of the North Island. Brown and rainbow trout were successfully introduced to these waters in the 1880s and 1890s. By early in the 20th century the Taupo Fishery had achieved world fame and today the town of Turangi on the southern shores of the lake wears the mantle of the Trout Fishing Capital of the World. The Angler's Paradise not only traces the history of the establishing and management of the fishery, it also tells the personal stories of some of the people involved and the passion they have for the area and for this unique fishery.
