The story about a guy framed for an... more attempted assassination came off eerily similar to JFK , man in 6th floor window, sharp shooter, presidential candidate, it?s all very familiar, but it?s what Fuqua and Stephen Hunter do with the story that is more intriguing. Wahlberg?s character has been created with the effort and competence that is missing from mainstream films these days. He actually knows the backstory, he knows who the character should be, and sets out to portray it correctly. A lot of technical information is given ? which one hopes isn?t put to use by anyone planning on completing the task Bob Lee is plotting, but does involve the viewer in the story instead of dumbing things down as if the audience are morons. This movie has good action from start to finish, a good amount of graphic violence, an easy to follow storyline, and the absence of b.s. gratuitous sex. Trust... more me, I'm not easy to please, and I was glad I saw this.
3. SpindleReviewed at 02:20PM on 5 May 2007Cool Sniper - This is a great action movie but it is not for the squeamish. Shooter?s R rating for violence is well deserved. It?s about Bobby Lee Swagger, a disillusioned retired sniper who is recruited for a special mission only... more to be framed for an assassination. They try and kill him but fail and although wounded he manages to escape. He goes to ground to lick his wounds after which the hunted becomes the hunter and the body count starts to climb. Although a certain amount of government corruption is exposed there is no boring moralizing about it. Swagger, perfectly played by Mark Wahlberg, is a highly skilled professional who goes about this task in a most efficient manner. There is neither the loud mouthed bluster often associated with the military in movies nor any resemblance to a Rambo clone. Shooter also has a strong supporting cast with Kate Mara as Sarah Fenn impressive as the female lead.

Great actors and well scripted - I actually found myself ignoring all the idiots talking on their cellphones and really got engrossed into the story which had plenty of twists and turns. ... more Would appear from previews to be your typical actioner, but is much more. Mark Wahlberg rules! Go see it. Amazing on the big screen.
