NOVECENTO, a play by Alessandro Baricco Starring: Claudiu Bleont Special Guests: Ngati Whatua o Orakei Kapa Haka Group lead by William Davis Played in Romanian with English subtitles One-man shows are becoming more and more popular these days. This one is a triumph of style over content. It depicts the life of the great musician Danny Boodman T.D. Lemon, aka. Novecento. From the smoky, coal-filled bowels of a ship, a figure emerges to tell us a yarn. The speaker was a trumpeter in a jazz band on a transatlantic liner during the interwar years, which is where he got to know the play`s hero, Novecento. Abandoned as a baby under the liner`s grand piano at the turn of the century, Novecento was lovingly reared by a steward, and grew up to be a great jazz pianist, but never set foot on land. Claudiu Bleont is a Romanian film and theatre actor, a remarkable television celebrity and comedian. He is fluent in four languages and he is known in Romania not only by his acting ability, but also for his improvisational talent.
