    kennyteeReviewed at 12:12PM on 24 Feb 2006Soooo Average - really average acting, badly filmed.there is no emotional attachment to the actors so you dont really care much when they get toes and arms cut off, its just gory and sickening. felt ill the entire second half, not... more particularly frightening just gross.

    EquinoxReviewed at 07:24PM on 15 Mar 2006Not Too Bad For Roth - This is a movie for Eli Roth fans who were disappointed with Cabin Fever, i'm not expecting it to appeal to anyone else. I have to admit, I was a little taken aback by the start of Hostel. From all the reviews I had... more read they made it sound like a gore-fest from start to finish. The first half introduces us to the characters and builds on them so we get an idea of their individual personality, the first half also explains how and why they end up in an out of the way town in Slovakia. Hostel may not have a rock solid storyline but it does have decent acting which for me caused some empathy with the main characters. Despite what many people have said I didn't consider the violence excessive. It is all related to the story and isn't in there just for the sake of it. Undoubtedly not a movie your average movie goer should see. This isn't your average horror movie. 3.5/5 And just for the record Hostel is nothing like Saw.

    BIGWILLYReviewed at 12:14PM on 6 Mar 2006Blatant Saw Rip Off - With less creativity. Start was out of place with the theme. Gore parts were good enuf if thats what you are after, suspenseful but not much else. In saying that, I enjoyed it.

    SativaReviewed at 04:06PM on 6 Mar 2006Perhaps The Script Existed Before Saw? - Not a scary movie, but shockingly repellent and highly convincing. For me this movie highlighted the kinds of extreme psychological mentality that exist (specifically the "torturing humans for pleasure" mentality)... more regardless of the predominating psychological state amongst humans on earth at any one time. There is no doubt in my mind that this kind of mentality lives amongst us today. If youre observant you can even spot it on the news sometimes e.g. certain military factions have been known to taunt and torture helpless humans with a seemingly insatiable desire for causing harm to them --- that to me is basically the same kind of state of mind as what is presented in Hostel.
