My teens and ore-teens all enjoyed it whether they'd read the book or not. I enjoyed it as well (4 out of 5) particularly enjoying the baddies and the setup for the sequel. The... more negatives didn't bother me much: uncomplicated storyline, inconsistent plot, and derivative imagery where "The Lord of the Rings" echoes in the battle scenes and the main character could have been Alex Rider straight out of "Stormbreaker" (actually, this is probably a positive for a teen audience).

    mrsmitchReviewed at 06:59PM on 23 Jan 2007My Son - My son and his friends all loved this movie, All eight year old boys, and I think thats how it should be enjoyed, through the eyes of the kids. The books were completely different, a shame a lot was left out.

I was expecting more of a "Lord of the Rings" type movie and maybe that was my... more mistake. So much was left out, but so much strange stuff was added that it left me wondering why they couldn't have left in the correct material to begin with. The characters were mostly totally different than how they are described in the book. Edward Speleers was probably closest to his character and I think we'll be seeing more of him in the future. I just think it could've been a much greater film than what it was.

It was so obvious the movie had very little funding, because they skipped over everything, and what they did manage to include was done WRONG. The entire political battle... more was removed, so anyone who did not read the novels was completely lost. It was so mangled that they should not have even done the movie at all. Almost all of the characters were done incorrectly. This movie was immoral; it failed to do the book and author justice. The creators of this film mocked, ridiculed, scorned, disrespected, tortured, and plain out DESTROYED the novel and the author. It is so plainly obvious that Christopher Paolini had practically nothing to do with the creation of this film. They took advantage of a young but talented author and ruined his books. I am enraged and disgusted by this film. It was a waste of time and money, as well as months of excitement. Paolini deserves much more than what was done; this film was an abomination.
10. moviebuffReviewed at 02:12AM on 26 Mar 2007What Happened????? - Why on earth would the author allow his book to be mutilated? The movie was a complete mess. It did not even resemble the novel. I was trying to figure out the logic for why they changed just about everything, but... more there is none. The movie was awful. The substitutions for the original story did not even make sense, nor did they add to the story. Did they rush the filming? Don?t filmmakers realize that movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are so successful because they closely mirror the book? What a disappointment. I want my money back!!!!

My friends and I have all read the books and literally believe they had no right to even NAME it the same as the book...They took the name put the book... more through a shredder then while the director was busy embezzling money from the film he had a blind man explain to a deaf monkey how to put it back together...They destroyed the storyline removed the WERECAT who is awesome lol...and overall did terrable...How they managed to screw up this badly I dont know. Cant blame budget because from what I know they had the same budget of one of the LOTR films...If they EVER want to make the movie Eldest they will have to remake the movie Eragon and get a different director before anyone who has ever read the books will watch it...

I went to see the movie with my mother (whom did not read the book) and she adored it. However, i am a... more very strong fan of "Eragon" and "Eldest" so i think that the film didnt use many of the books real story. With this i was not pleased. Though the effects and actors were great and i'm positive that anyone that did not read the book will enjoy the movie. The reason that i have figured with most book-fans is that you (and i) waited months and months, so excited and looking forward to, whats suppose to be, this fantastic film. Yet, when you get there you cant really stop think "What the-?" or "When did that happen?" and it does get you annoyed. I was very annoyed, yet i try to keep telling myself: Its just a movie and it didnt take away my love of the book. Think of the positive side my fellow book-lovers!
