You get a different ending and a whole new sub-plot about how Willie Wonka became like he is. Johnny Depp plays a... more fantastically twisted Willie Wonka - came across quite Michael Jackson-like actually! Tim Burton was a great choice as director for this movie, if you have seen any of his other work you will understand the unique the "wierdness" factor that he brings - just who Roald Dahl would have picked I recon!

The other children are all typecasts from the original, but slanted to modern day characters. Willy Wonka is... more fantastic, weirder than the original! The factory is filled with modern technology, and you get hungry looking at the wonderful selection. Umpa Lompas do their thing each time a child gets sent off. I enjoyed their various dances. Come in a "childish" mood, we all have inside of us, and yes...it will be...beyond your wildest dreams.

Willy Wonka is creepy in this, I didn't like the flashing back to his bizzare childhood and I just don't think this... more version had the dreamland type fantasy that the original had. My kids love it but they have never really seen the old one properly so don't know any different. Not for me.

The sets were brilliant.It is a natural progression from the original movie. Not only tells Charlie's story, but also tells Willy... more Wonka story and the Ompalompas story. I recomend it for anybody of any age.

    ImeeReviewed at 02:54PM on 5 Oct 2005An Instant Classic - The original movie with Gene Wilder is, of course, a classic itself. But Tim Burton's remake doesn't disappoint. There are a few details from the original movie that were left out of this one - the fizzy drink flying... more scene, the lotsa-bubbles car wash and the competing candy-maker who bribes the children - but a few new twists have been added in - more about Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas - which makes the movie stand well on its own. I also really enjoyed the ending of this movie - the original movie left a lot of unanswered questions and I think this one really ties up the loose ends well. The sets looked good enough to eat and the acting from all the children was superb. All in all, a good movie that I would recommend seeing.

You see him in any interview and then you watch this movie and you would swear it wasn't him at... more all! He is my favourite Actor and he plays crazy Excellent. I was smiling and laughing all the way through this Film, Brilliant.

    batesbullReviewed at 02:13PM on 10 Dec 2005Better Than The Old One - When I saw this one I was like "Oh Cool" even though I got the song stuck it my head (Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka!). But the Ompa Lompas weren't the same. They weren't orange or any bright colours besides brown and white... more which doesnt match. It does with chocolate but not with anything else. But it was still pretty good. Theres this boy i saw up town once and he was soooo fat so I said to my friend, "Hey theres Augustus off Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!" and we both cracked up laughing. Once again It was a really good movie and I would like to go to the Factory one day!!!

Especially the brillance of Johnny Depp. He really makes this movie and shows off his excellent talent as an actor. The movie follows the basic story line as... more the original but with a few extra things added but this does not detract away from the original. Overall i would give this movie a 7.5 out of 10.

He just acts way to weird in this film for my liking. People may disagree but i just don't think... more it suited him, especially for a childrens film. He is usually crude and jokes, this film is way to serious for him. Old school is better. This film just does not cut it for me...

     lisajnrReviewed at 08:41AM on 28 Sep 2005Loved It!! - Excellent movie, glad we went with the kids, Johnny Depp plays the part of willie wonka with a funny comical twist that is so funny you cant help laughing in quite a few spots,I love both the new and the old versions... more and the kids will want to watch this over and over as well well worth the movie going experience.

Johnny... more Depp played Willy Wonka REALLY well and Freddie Highmore surprises us once again with his excellent acting Talent. Charlie and the Chocolate factory is a Funny, cleaverly written movie...a must see for EVERYONE!

Charlie and the Chocolate factory mixes Tim's original visionary effects with a classic childrens... more tale and the results are magical. Set against a fantastical backdrop the story of Charlie Bucket's adventures through Wonka's chocolate factory won't fail to amaze young and old alike. Johnny Depp's captivating portrayal of a metrosexual is original and highly entertaining. The only fault is that the Oompah Loompah's songs (although very imaginative and catchy) are sung in such a way that it is hard to catch the words thus preventing the audience singing along.

I thought the first movie was much better. I tried not to, but I kept... more comparing both. The special effects weren't much cop. It was so animated that it looked stupid. Instead of the famous umpa-lumpa song, we had loads of stupid ones with one guy being animated to make it appear there were loads of helpers. I missed the famous song, I thought it was great. All in all, though it was a waste on my time and money. Would recommend just renting on DVD when it comes out - don't buy it !
